Giant TCX - $ 1,200

hi,

I’m going to part with my cyclo-crosser because i want to acquire a mtn bike. Frame size Medium (about 56cm), SRAM Rival.

It’s one year old. Has seen some CX action but is in perfect order. Chain is recent. Both wheels + cassette are new (have less than 100km).

Retailed for $1600.

Included are new Schwalbe mud tires and a 53 teeth chainring (it currently has 48-34, and has grass / gravel tires on).

Don’t know too much about bikes, but if I buy the bike and then purchase road tires will it serve as a good functioning road bike for the spring? Thanks in advance

i rode/raced on a cross bike this year. It works well.

Wait, you need a mountain bike and I need a road/road-ish bike for the spring. I have a Norco Scrambler (hardtail, 20"). It cost less than your cyclo-cross bike, but I could pay the difference. I should note, I am 5’ 11" so the sizing may be off…

a Norco Scrambler is not quite what i’m looking for…

However, if you take it i’ll throw in a pair of road tires too, and a pair of road pedals (either Keo, Shimano, or Delta-compatible, according to taste).

hey nick was is it exactly you are looking for?

okay, but will it fit me? I’m 5’ 11"

i<m exactly one inch taller, so it should fit you well.

@ Ben : i<m looking to take over JonVK<s Gary Fisher. Broblem is the Manitou skareb fork needs a servicing and looks like it can only be done in BC.

DO NOT waste money getting that fork serviced.

why not? shitty fork?

how much would a half-decent new fork go for, and what would you propose?

I dismantled my Skareb and rebuilt it in Calgary, it wasn’t a big deal, and asides from the stupid plastic shaft for the rebound knob, it’s been a perfectly good fork for me. However, if there is any part which needs to be replaced, you can’t get it. I bought a second Skareb on ebay to scab parts off of.

Recon Solo Air? Suntour Epicon?

For what it’s worth, I have a thrice-ridden x-fusion Enix RL sitting in my garage that I’m looking to sell. I bought it for my old bike just before I wrecked that frame and just decided to ditch the whole thing for a 29er. The fork’s pretty nice and essentially brand new, though probably not quite as plush as the Recon gold I’m riding right now. Air fork with 100mm of travel, standard quick release. Steerer tube is cut, and I probably wouldn’t be able to get it to montreal until after christmas. Probably sell for around $150.
