Olmstead path riding/skiing conditions: interactive update

A post for the winter riders and skiers.
Is the Olmstead path rideable/skiable? icy? lots of snow? recommended wax or tire pressure?

I’d be interested to know when they’ll have packed the snow to make it rideable again.

But seriously, I want to get into skiing. Is it expensive? I don’t need another money hole in my life…

I’d like to appoint Nic and myself as running scouts to check out these conditions!

You can get a basic but decent equipment for around 300$ new. The stuff you wear to bike at 0-5C should be warm enough to ski in up to about -10C. Of course, it can get more expensive, but still way cheaper than biking.

for biking : 10/10. Regular mud tires, medium pressure. Surface is hard and no ice.

for skiing : from statue to actual ski trail is shit (i.e. first 300m), but once there, 6.5/10. Not groomed, but there are tracks from the sheer willpower of xc skiers all the way around.

Thanks Nic for the update!!

for those who are interested, but might have been forgotten, most of the winter rides will now happen on:

Anyone been up since the massive snow dump?

Yes, it’s nice and clean. They started grooming ski trails 2-3 days ago too.

10/10 for biking
8/10 for skiing

Yep, winter in Montreal is better for cycling than skiing

Yes, in civilized countries, they even have indoor trails in the summer. Here, they barely groom them in the winter.

I especially like the don’t pee on track sign at 1:26.

Mont-Royal CX conditions as of today sat Jan 19 ?
Will be there at around 11.
