After sunday’s intro class at the Powerwatts studio, I think those in attendance were impressed with what Chris (the coach) had to offer. In my opinion, the technical capabilities of the system (pedal stroke analysis, drafting simulation, etc.) are top notch, the coach is experienced and knowledgeable (he didn’t mention this but before Powerwatts, Chris was working with Carmichael Training Systems), and the team atmosphere makes training much better. The center is not in the most convenient location (10min walk from St-Henri metro or 15min ride from campus) but you can’t have your cake and eat it too, eh?
Enough of the sales pitch though. Here’s the deal for the spring classes…
Schedule: classes will be held every monday at 6:15pm. There will be 12 classes total. As of now, we have the option of either going Jan 4 - Mar 29 or Jan 11 - Apr 5. In either case, there will be no class on Mar 8, which is the monday following the Rutgers weekend. If you have a preference between the 2 schedules then let me know and we’ll go with the majority.
Price: if you pre-pay for all 12 classes then it will cost $20+tx per class (i.e. $240+tx for the entire spring). If you pre-pay and cannot make it to a class then you can sell your spot to a teammate, who will take your place for that class. If you do not pre-pay and there are spots left, then it will cost $30 per class, tax included, to drop in.
Keep in mind that there are only 8 spots available. If you do not pre-pay then there is no guarantee that there will be a “drop-in” spot available for you.
I’ll be checking this thread often. If you sign up for it then I will send you a pm to confirm your interest. Chris will then send you an invoice so that you can pay for the classes.
As I already told Dave a couple of times I prefer the Jan11 to April 5th option because (#1, I can’t come on the 4th…), but also we get to have trainings the weeks of Rutgers and Yale and we get a week after the vacation to settle things in order to get ready for serious watts.
I’m in too 100%, PENDING an ok from the McGill sports med clinic on my knee. appointment on friday, hopefully they won’t be telling me I need surgery or something stupid like that. I was AMAZED by the technology and the setup they have. It’s funny, cuz even though I work on their bikes, I never realized how good it would be to actually train on them. I’ve never really trained with numbers before, and I can only imagine how much more it will help. Planning on shredding some serious dirt in the spring.
for sure there will be times when spots are available because people can’t go. If people are on top of things and know when they are gonna miss class, then drop ins will be possible at the $20 price.
Great to see the enthusiasm for the class! I’m really looking forward to them.
If you are one of the 8 people signed up for this class then please send me a pm or email (david.gruber@mail.mcgill.ca) with your email address. This message will confirm your commitment to the classes. Chris will then send you an invoice via email.
Please do this asap so that everybody can pre-pay on schedule!
Due to popular demand, these classes will now start on Jan 11 and run until Apr 5. There will still be no class on the monday after Rutgers (Mar 8th).
Also, in case you didn’t get my message, Chris will be sending out your invoices via email. We can pay them prior to the first class - we’ll just have to show up a bit early. They take all forms of payment.
Ok, so Caitlin is interested even though there is 8 people, Brendan I know is interested, what about Tommy, Ben CY, Nick CY, etc.? Who else is interested beyond the 8 that are already signed up? We will investigate the possibilities of more class space. NO PROMISES THOUGH
Don’t worry, we’re still waiting on the invoices. I’m assuming things got a little bogged down during Christmass. They should be sent soon. I’ll update here if I hear anything!
Again, to confirm: the first class will be Monday, Jan 11.
The invoices have been sent to everyone’s email address. If you did not receive an invoice then please let me know and we’ll get one to you!
Let’s plan on showing up at about 5:45 (30 min before the class starts) on monday so that we can process all the payments and start on time.
Also, this first class will be focused on determining our fitness levels so that each of us has accurate numbers to use for subsequent classes. It will be very hard, but I like to see it as a big kick in the ass to start the training! It will probably take about an hour and a half instead of the regular 1 hour, so don’t plan anything imediately after the class.
Finally, in the team-only section I’ll post the code needed to get in the front door in case it’s locked and no one can hear you knocking!
Alright guys, first class is tomorrow. Again, official start time is 6:15pm but I encourage everyone to be there at least 30 minutes beforehand. If you don’t know how to get there then I’ll probably be taking the metro. Call me if you want to go together. 514-891-6987
It would be nice for everyone to have their invoice printed out but they have a printer at the studio so I’m sur eit won’t be a huge deal. As long as you have some way of paying, it should all work out.
Also, don’t forget to bring your pedals, shoes, measurements, and water bottle!
Thanks everyone for being on time and being enthusiastic. I think Chris is pretty impressed with us and I want to keep it that way. Keep up the energy, keep working hard, and showing up on time. I really have been loving his workouts, and I hope everyone else feels the same.
