From January to April, 2011, Powerwatts (one of our sponsors) will again be offering weekly training classes to the team! At the moment, I’m just trying to determine how much interest there is. Please send me an email (davidbgruber@gmail.com) if you are interested in participating.
Powerwatts is a cycling-specific gym for all levels of cyclist. Their setup involves 8 fully adjustable bikes hooked up to computrainers, complete with a screen in front of each rider, tracking their power, speed, cadence, etc. Weekly classes, run by a certified coach, involve power-based interval training.
Personally, I think that this is the best possible way to get in shape for the early racing season. A weekly class, aimed at race fitness, done as a group of 8 motivated team members. Everyone works at their own standardized power, so you could have a pro riding next to a beginner cyclist and they’re both suffering and pushing the same amount. It’s great.
The classes retail at $50/class, but we get them at $20/class. If there’s enough interest then they’re happy to run 2, or even 3 classes for us!
Again, let me know if you’re interested so that we can start planning for the winter training.
The classes will each be 1hr long. They’ll be held weekly from January until probably March. As for which day of the week it’ll be, that will remain undecided for a while
The classes are at Premier Fitness, 4710 Saint-Ambroise, and you pay for 10 classes. Last season it was $200, so $20 a class, which seems steep but I sat in on two last winter and it’s a really good training setup they have.
Alright guys, this is the last couple days to show interest in the Powerwatts class if you’d like to join for this winter! Again, it’s a great way to stay motivated and fit over the winter, not to mention the value of suffering side by side with 7 other people.
Send me an email quick if you want in (davidbgruber@gmail.com). After this week, I’ll start looking into what days/times will be most convenient for the classes.
I’m interested. Even though, I’m not racing/riding with the team as much as I used to I still like to break a good sweat and these classes are fun/painful!
