Saturday morning south shore

12C, sunny, SW wind of 5km/hr

  • I’ll have finally been fitted to my bike!

Lets go for a 3hr ride! I’d love to leave from the Roddick Gates at 10am and head to the south shore, although I won’t claim to know the way.

Im in! Meet at the milton gates?

Question: I was wondering what to anticipate for the pace? I haven’t ridden all winter and am a newbie to the club…

I imagine that most of the quick people will be in yale this weekend, so I’d be happy to do a base-mile type ride on the south shore, perhaps around 80km (and then HILLS on sunday). I haven’t done the varennes loop and it looks fun. Christine, for this type of ride, it’s almost always no-one-gets-dropped. Average pace will probably end up being around 30km/h. So I definetly think you should come along. It’ll be fun!

Eric makes a good point but I know that the first 80km ride of the season can be really tough, even if you have been training indoors over the winter (I tried it last year without much training and I ran out of gas half way through, making the last 35km pretty interesting). So I’d recommend starting with 1.5-2hrs. Christine, are you free to ride tomorrow? The weather will be nice and I’d be happy to take you out for a hills workout or F1 track ride! I’m free anytime after 12!

I’m in. I’ve done the Varennes loop once before, but I have since forgotten the exact route. Also, I’ll be doing hills some time tomorrow around 12-ish, so maybe I’ll see some of you out there.

i’m in for base miles. I’ve done a couple of south shore loops before. But have an annoying tendency of getting lost.

the bike path part of the varennes route was not in the best of condition last week. nor was chambly. just FYI on sat morning at 9 there is a ride at the cote de liesse circle(Mobilart parking lot), masters riders who are somewhat skilled. we still go to the west island at this time of year and do a couple of loops overthere. so you guys can join in its usually fun and you can’t really get lost.

I might come as well.

Thanks for mentioning that ride Nick. I’d like to take a different spin on the West Island.
At this point though, all my base-mile rides have been out that way. I’m craving some different scenery, even if that means a wrong turn here and there (and my phone has maps on it). So I’m still down for the south shore if everyone else is!

WHen is this ride supposed to be?
May or May not show up. don’t wait but tentatively in

meet at the gates at 10am. I am definetly excited to do a base ride. See you there!

I get lost on this ride too. Hopefully someone knows where they are going!

I have done the Varennes loop a number of times and am willing to assist in helping us not get lost. See everyone at the gates at 10. Charles

I might show up for this, as long as you guys promise not to drop me somewhere off the island

I’ve done a bunch of South Shore rides, and will probably make an appearance tomorrow morning- worst case i’ll use my garmin to get us home.

if the ride is at 10 I’ll be there.

CORRECTION for the masters’ ride: it’s meeting at the Nickel’s in Ville St Laurent (NOT at cote de liesse) and going to Oka/St Joseph. This is a great ride. I’ll make a separate thread for it so that this thread doesn’t get too confusing…

@ Dave, when I am in better and more confident shape I definitely want to do this ride.

ditto Charles.
I can only keep a heart rate of 178 for so long… and then I will no doubt get dropped. But perhaps some day this summer I’ll feel confident enough in my fitness!
