Last winter we had some success with regular winter runs outdoors and I am fielding interest for this winter. The route is usually up the mountain at an easy pace, usually 30-45 minutes. Unfortunately the time would have to be early in the morning, probably starting 06h30-07h.
The cold may seem daunting but winter running is a great way to build the cardio without staying indoors all the time. We might even organise occasionally have crazy carpet relays in a sort of sprint/relay team fashion (hard fun is the best fun).
