Even though the hardcore among us are still riding outside, it’s time to get into the spinning routine. I’ll be leading spinning on Friday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00.
We’ll do a variety of exercises (sprints, short climb simulations, etc.) to music with an emphasis on having fun because, let’s face it, riding a bike indoors sucks. In February we can be more serious, but for now we’re just trying to get in some workouts.
I teach 4 spinning classes per week for McGill staff and students. They pay big bucks to take the classes but you’ll get them for free! You save close to 3 dollars! (If you show up. If you don’t show up you save nothing.) Woo hoo!
Meet at the spinning room (down the hall from the fitness centre at the gym). There is a spin class in the room until 6:55, so wait in the hall until they finish. Bring a towel. I also bring a pedal wrench and my road pedals (speedplay) because my knees complain when I use the SPDs on the spin bikes.
You can’t get dropped. It can be difficult to do a group ride on the road because everyone wants to go a different speed. In spinning, everyone stays together.
You can ride 10 abreast and talk to people.
Significantly fewer crashes than on the road or the trail.
No potholes. No road buzz. This results in less butt fatigue.
No worries about running red lights or stop signs.
No weather issues.
No flat tires.
More music.
No need to swear at drivers in either official language.
Wear your bib under your jeans and bring all your gear down to the spin room Eli! You can just put it in the corner. And spinning is a great place for beginners
Or if you have a lock you can use a locker in the locker room (upstairs from the main doors). Just put your stuff in any empty locker and put on a lock.
