This is actually pretty impressive. It shows that he’s lost some weight for sure!
Must be feeling a bit better about his chances over Box Hill…
Don’t forget that it’s an extremely flat, short stage race with no GC names in it. Every stage finished with a sprint, so it’s pretty logical that Cav would do very well.
Even though he didn’t win a stage, he was consistent throughout and placed really well every time, so it’s not very surprising.
I wouldn’t be so dismissive… He hung tough on stage three where other pure sprinters (also high on GC going into the day) lost over 13 minutes
profile:
I can only imagine how worried Wiggins is about his role as team leader in July!
It’s tendentious to say they lost 13mn, they finished with the gruppetto. He had to finish that stage since he started in yellow, so he had his sky teammates to pace him up.
As for Wiggins’ leadership in the tour, I don’t think he should be overly worried. He just won the Dauphine where he almost humiliated Cadel in the last TT, and the lack of big mountain contenders, coupled with 100+K of TT gives him the best shot at a TDF win he’ll ever have. I think Sky would be stupid not to put their horses on him.
However, seeing Cav do well on a decent hilly stage means we might get to see a good Cav/Sagan duel in the Tour. I’m really hoping for that, because Cav’s dominance in the past few years has made sprinting stages pretty boring.
Cav probably thinks sagan will take green, so he’s refocusing on the polka dots
Sky will win both the green jersey and Probably the yellow.
Orica green-edge really only have the flat stages
Lotto only really have the flat stages
Rabobank will have a lot riding on renshaw, Bos…
therefore, less chasing and stauing at the front to protect brad/cav…
Cav seems to be climbing better than in previous years…
As for brad, we have the liguigas train that will pace for hours in the mountains (they always seem to). And nothing happen and BMC will also pace for hours in the mountains for cadel not to attack.
There’s also a chance that Cav leaves the Tour after 2 weeks to prepare for the Olympics, so Sky might not go after the Green. I guess we’ll see…
Maybe less of this now :
