Cycling Shoe Orthotics

I have been using a pair of orthotics in my cycling shoes that are essentially a thinner version of the ones I had custom made for my running shoes last spring. They have been been recently causing me some knee problems and I would like to replace them. Would anyone have advice on where I could have some cycling shoe orthotics made? Is it worth going custom or are generic one fine? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Custom vs generic depends on you. Specialized makes excellent generic insoles, shims and varus wedges to get you set up properly, but i wouldnt recommend anything but the insoles unless you went for a bike fitting. Which, by the way I would recommend to anyone if you don’t feel comfortable on the bike.

I agree with Brandon’s advice about not shimming yourself. Stick to insoles and trainer rides to test them out so that if anything hurts you are next to your bed already.

PS - Very unconventional post to tell me you didn’t make it to spinning.

Jacques had a lot to say about orthotics in South Carolina, he has had some experience with them I gather. You should get him to weigh in on this.

Jaques has something you can’t get at your fancy schools - Life Experience.
