Early 90's Gianella - am i paying too much

Hi fellow bike enthusiasts

Im about to purchase an old (but perhaps not vintage) Marinoni built Gianella (pierrefond bike shop branded marinoni frame).

it was used by a former racer and still active cyclist until he bought himself a new crazy Gianella carbon bike (dont recall the model) in 2009

The bike in question has a full DA 8 speed grouppo (however im not sure about the head set and BB), comes with original wheels (likely tubulars) and a newer set (say 2000-2004) medium profile shimano clincher rims (not sure the model) apparently worth 1000 alone at the time.

Its has brifters but im not 100% on the date of the bike. my guess is 1989-1993 ish.

the frame is in excellent condition. and I can estimate it was ridden a LOT since it was purchased but is in meticoulus condition. No rust. only a tiny bit of pitting on the chromed brifter head due to sweat from the hands.

600$ is the agreed upon price.

i have been looking for a high end steel bike for some time now.

let me know what you guys think…

I was trying to sell my 2-year old MTB for $600, which I thought was a reasonable price for a great used bike. That Marinoni probably classes as a way nicer used bike than mine was - $600 for Dura Ace? I’d jump for it. The old stuff’s less complicated anyway.

you see people trying to sell “vintage” road bikes on craigs list that are not in great shape for more than that. If the bike is in good condition and has been taken care of I’d go for it

i got the bike today!

check it out here if it interests you: http://s462.photobucket.com/albums/qq342/LgReno/Marinoni%20build%20Gianella/

its great appart from that rusty patch underneath the toptube at the meeting point with the seat tube.

Nice bike. It’s almost Gios blue.

I would work off the worst of the rust flake at the top of the seat tube/down tube (don’t sand deep just remove the debris!). It’ll give you an idea of how deep the rust zone is and then you can paint it over with something. It looks fairly minor but you want to be careful with salt water rusting.
