With our first ECCC weekend less than a week away it is already time to look forward to our second big race weekend and this sure is a good one!
The Army Spring Classic hosted by the West Point Military Academy is a high point in the ECCC calendar, the race features some amazing courses including the Harriman State Park Team Time Trial and Road Race, and the amazing Shea Stadium Criterium (personally my favourite crit course I have ever raced) and there are categories for all racer. To say the least it will be an amazing weekend and we hope to send a good troop to represent McGill. See this post for more information on racing with McGill Cycling
I would like to get full confirmation on whether you plan to participate by the end of the day Sunday March 28th but please indicate your level of interest ASAP so I can start working on the logistics.
As always the trip price will be ~$60 and if you are able to provide a car or place to stay the cost of your trip will be waved.
I have a few questions. 1) Do we have to purchase insurance or anything in case of a crash and a $10000 bill for a few band aids? 2) This would be my first race and I’m not sure which category would be best. Most likely either Intro or D but the intro road race is only 19.3km which seems pretty short. I think I am in fairly decent shape. Any input? 3) Should I purchase a UCI licence or just day licenses? This is the only ECCC race that I can attend but I will be here in the summer and might try some of the FQSC races as well. Thanks for the help!
Hey Mark! Travel insurance is always smart to get! If it’s your irs race, intro is nice because they ride with you and I’ve pointers and stuff, so it’s a good way to get into racing, however, you could also do D if you wanted a longer race. There will just he a lot more people in the pack, so less beginner friendly. A UCI license is probably smart if you think you’re going to do FQSC racing. But if you’re not sure if the number of races you’re going to do will be worth the expensive license, you can also just get day each time.
