Fall 2015 Mountain Bike Races

Hello all,

I hope everyone isn’t too sad about going back to school. I’m not. You know why? Because going back to school means it’s the fall, and that means fall mountain bike racing!

This is a feeler post to see who might be interested. Four out of the five ECCC races are within 4-5 hours of driving.

Sept 12/13 Northeastern Wild Western Mass in Holiday Farm, MA.
Sept 19/20 RIT Steep & Deep Plattekill, NY.
Oct 3/4 MIT in Charlemont, MA.
Oct 10/11 Northeastern Highland Mtn, NH.

Here’s the link to the calendar.

These races are really ultra super fun. The atmosphere is very laid back. They are a great introduction to racing. Each race weekend usually has cross country, short-track cross country, dual slalom and downhill races.

The plan would be that we’d leave McGill on the Friday afternoon as early as possible. We would probably camp close to the race area. We would return to McGill after the last race on Sunday.

If there is interest, an official sign up post will come later. Also, if there are any other mountain bike races around (like the 8h one Cam posted) feel free to suggest them!

As a first-time mountain biker last year, these were a blast–good racing for any level

Mtb racing is essentially a party on a bike!

I’d love to race, I’ll see about getting my mountain bike at some point - fingers crossed!
In terms of other races, I’ve done two in MA that are a huge blast, great people in charge. They’re a bit farther out, but lots of fun.

I’m new to McGill cycling but I’m definitely interested.

Hi hi,

I dabbled with some enduro/dh racing in Edinburgh last year, and would be keen to race here. Also very keen to go on some trail rides?!

Okay, this is great. For those who are interested, could you please post which weekends you would like to attend.

Since we’re traveling to the states, remember that you’ll need a valid passport. Also, you will need to have paid your team fees and you’ll need to find yourself a McGill cycling jersey. It can be outdated. I’m sure someone on the team would be happy to lend or even sell one to you.

The first race is this coming weekend at Northeastern University. If you want to come to this one, I’ll send an email with the details.

The club has a few extras from last year’s order. You can check our inventory and let me know if there’s anything you’d like.

Hey, I think I’m down for this weekend. Not sure about the following races yet though.

Also, could I get one of those small jerseys from the inventory? Seeing as how I would need one.

Alright, let’s try the new signup feature! Thank you Noah.

I will send you an email soon Craig, and anyone else who wants to come this weekend.

hey oliver at moment i might be able to do oct 10/11

oh i want to do highland!

That’s great Cameron. And Karissa, I could get into this. Are there a variety of trails there? Like not just freeride/dh

I’m pretty sure it’s all downhill… But I mean. I have no idea. I’m assuming they’re gonna have a course set up
I’ve only done dh there though. And it’s siiiiiiiick

Sweet! I think that will be a good one. I think they will probably have a good dual slalom course too

They probably will! And a super d/downhill course whichll be sweet!

I have a friend who wants to go down that weekend to ride anyways so he’d have space for bikes n all that shit in his car. Do you think - if he schleps us and whoever also wants to go down - Mcgill cycling can reimburse him for gas?

Highland does have xc trails as well as incredible downhill. They also have some really easy downhill trails that can be ridden carefully on a xc bike. Their dual slalom course is second to none, and again can be ridden on a xc bike. I would like to go down to highland this weekend, so perhaps I can be involved.

Yes for sure we can figure something out like that. That’s one less car we’ll need to rent. This sounds like it’s shaping up to be a great weekend. Races in the morning, trail riding in the afternoon! What is the lodging situation like down there? There must be campgrounds close by.
