Fork Preload problem

Long story short the pre-load adjust nob on my MTB fork sheared off - its a POS rock shox tora RS (how I loath entry level components).

The plastic hex bushing that seals the piston appears intact but the preload adjust broke inside the bushing. The fork still appears to work fine, there just isn’t any preload, it doesn’t overly compress when I’m riding on it i’m just really worried it’ll act up on a real ride.

The questions are, do I dare even ride on this? What are the chances its the whole preload spring mechanism that is damaged and not just the bushing and knob? Do I even bother warrantying this hunk of junk or do I just go and try to find a used air shock fork?

the beauty of entry level mtb parts is that even if you break off little plastic bits they usually work exactly the same. Ride it like ya stole it, that’s my motto.

want to go kill this fork even more on the mountain tomorrow then?

turns out in all later models of that fork they replaced both the adjuster knob and top cap with AL versions - jee I wonder why?

Or you could open it with the help of the user manual, find the broken part, and go to your local bike shop who would then do a special order to Cycle Lambert for the exact piece… I am sure they can sell it even if it is a “lower end” component. (this would save you some money since buying a new fork can be expensive).

I already found what I believe is the replacement part for the broken bit in the dealer catalog. The whole assembly is now in aluminum instead of plastic on the current model but I’m going to remove the part and bring it by a shop to make sure.

can’t ride tomorrow, got to work, and pull together the wheel order.
