Gauging interest: Sat Nov 13: Sutton-Jay Peak loop?

you are both definitely in the back seat

Jim, I’m still in if there is a spot left.

I’m totally in for sharing a rental. I can’t drive, but I’ll be glad to share the cost. I can probably also provide a trunk rack for 3 bikes and a bit of padding. If we want to stay around for the night and ride on sunday, I can also hook us up for the night in Bedford.

Oh, and don’t forget to bring a passport! No getting through otherwise. And stop at the stop sign at the border.

in terms of bike racks I can provide, I need to confirm, but I can usually get my hands on a thule 962xt or whatever that model number is. If you go to Thule’s site, it lists compatible cars.

Excellent!
Does that rack fit on communauto cars? I should still be able to get one of those.

“In 'Merica, we obey traffic laws”

From what I can tell, jeroen, the rack seems to fit onto pretty much anything - it doesn’t need a trailer hitch. The three toyotas which communauto lists on their website should all be fine.

Ok I got a Toyota Yaris for tomorrow.

Jonathan can you pm your contact details and where I can pick you up with the rack tomorrow morning?

There is one spot left for Ruth.

Jim should we meet at a shop’s parking lot instead of the gates. Should be easier to fit the bikes in/on the car?

Cool- looks like it’s a GO! and we have room for everyone that was interested!!

Just to avoid any confusion, why don’t we go ahead and meet at the gates. There is enough room for us to pull off and load bikes, especially if you have your rack installed. Everyone just make sure to be there ON TIME!

to review:
Meet at the gates at 8:00 am sharp!
Drive to Sutton (anyone know where we can leave our cars for a couple of hours?)
Intermediate+ ride of x Km and x feet of climbing which should take x hours (anyone want to fill in the blanks?)

Bring passports and Cds if you don’t like my music.

any interest in staying the night as per Jonathan? I am happy to drive back but could be talked into staying.

Definitely!

If there is still room I would go, but only for the day.

awesome!! see everyone in the morn!

chilly… from what i can tell there are 6 spots and 7 people. i will bring my list of random numbers as you were one of the originals who wanted to go. maybe someone won’t show or…

don’t know what else to do…

see everyone at 8:00

jim

Actually if Jonathan has the rack this would be 3 bikes on that, and from the pics I’ve seen we should still be able to fit a bike in the trunk as well. So that would make 3 people with jim and 4 with me.

No guarantees for the 4 though as I have never used the car (toyota yaris, 4 doors) nor the rack. Besides Jonathan still needs to confirm he has the rack (thule 962xt).

would be great if we can get all on board

Saterday only for me

Sutton Parking: Roll in to town and look for the big bike sculpture hanging over the road. There is a parking lot which you can use, and which everyone uses.

An intermediate+ ride of approx 95 km with approx 4000ft climbing total over three passes, with a max grade of 7 or 8%

Two opportunities for snack stops. With a big group give yourself five+ hours. You won’t want to wait too long for snacks, if you’re leaving the gates at 8 you could be returning to the car at dusk.

Bring lots of layers, it’s noticeably colder at 1000 ft above sea level.

And a final note: the second climb, when you reach the Jay ski village, you’re not at the top yet.

Wish I could come. You guys tear it up!

very helpful- thanks john. recover quickly!

jim

Oh yea i forgot to mention. I was at jay last weekend and there was quite a bit of snow in the mountains. Should be a real pretty ride. I would suggest a camera be brought.
I might try my luck and show up tomorrow morning, but will leave the last spot to someone else if it comes down to it.

I confirm the 962xt. See you all tomorrow

chilly… come! we’ll figure it out.

over and out- see you in the morning.
