That depends on what your aim is. If you’re aim is just to get far, you can probably do around 180-200km if it’s reasonably flat, and repeat on the second day. At this time of the year/location, probably a lot less in the cold. If you actually want to enjoy the trip, I’d aim more for 150km.
Yep, I’m going solo. The maximum I’ve made in a day was 140km, it was quite OK, the day after I made a 3h morning trip in a very hilly area and it wasn’t that bad. This time it will be cold, I will be wearing more stuff. I still think that I can manage to do 200km. Just hope that my knee will be OK.
I finaly have everything to be confortable down to -5c. while being confortable on a long ride. I’m also going minimalist style: toolkit, ultralight waterproof clothings and spare socks in a small bag under the seat. That’s it.
re: body hitting a wall - If you have enough food you can ride 200 km in 10 hours and be fine twice in a row , even with minimal training. Just need to monitor your calories in. Id say you’ll do 5000 cals/day + the ~2000 you need to survive ? Could be less cals if you’re taking it super easy, but then you’ll run out of light. hah.
If you pack along a credit card and pick up food / drinks on the way at regular intervals you should be good. And eat & rehydrate off the bike substantially.
Hehe today I made 145km only :(. However it was with a strong head wind the whole time… It couldn’t be more straight than that! Weather channel said it was a 25kph average wind gust over 50. I was also folowing the St-Laurence river with full exposure to wind. I even needed to use my granny gear for some wind gust. Overall I’m satisfied cause I know I managed to output GOOD power. I feel like I’ve been climbing Camillien-Houde during the whole distance…
