How to clean a helmet?

I’m in need of a non-Febreze method of making my headgear not want to make people I ride with hate me.

If your pads are really bad, just change them.You can also run the pads through the washing machine, cold cycle, if you’ve got a wash bag.Hand wash the actual helmet with dish soap.

How Stuff Works Says:

  1. Never follow the manufacturers instructions in regards to cleaning.
  2. No helmets can be cleaned in mildly soapy water, if they are rinsed off and air dried they will be destroyed forever.
  3. Only use harsh solvents.
  4. Put your helmet in the washing machine, dishwasher or clothes dryer for best results.
  5. You always should wash your bike helmet while you wash yourself.
  6. The BHSI recommends Ammonia to remove odors.

I dont buy it!!! You must use Ammonia AND bleach to clean you and your helmet at the same time.
