Lean Green Energy Machine

David, you’re forbidden from ever quitting the forum.

Is he throwing a wrench into it, or a very small, armless stick figure like himself?

Would this accelerate infinitely? I think so…
Now it just needs magnets

So far beyond Roman technology.

Pfft, I was hyping spintronics before LPP was cool.

Regional science fair?

We somehow managed to scam our way into the national science fair.

Your partner looks really excited about it too!

That’s awesome! I hope it was somewhere cool.

Do you have painted sideburns pete?

I assure you, my sideburns are in no need of embellishment.
The CWSF was held in Saskatoon that year. Coincidentally, my 19th birthday occurred during the fair, and so I purchased my first legal beer at the hotel bar. #petefacts

Spintronics a real thing: ie solid state electronics (memory especially) based on modifying electron spin and magnetic moment.

Free energy people should suffer particularly unpleasant fates. I should really propose a bill to that effect.

It’s actually extremely easy to build a magnetic rotor system that will accelerate in the presence of an external magnetic field which you can then hide out of sight with no connection to your perpetual motion device. You can also play all sorts of impedance mismatch games and circuit shorting to get acceleration, but you’re not getting free energy, you’re just partitioning the energy mostly into rotor motion.

The science behind what they are claiming - a conversion of heat into electrical power by exploitation of electron spin current - is legit, and there are papers out there on the topic: http://www.nature.com/srep/2014/140321/srep04429/full/srep04429.html

However, these results are still pretty experimental, and I’d be surprised if the “spintronic generator” actually works.

The nature and PRL paper talk about harvesting thermal energy and turning it into current.

Practically, none of these devices are going to provide primary power for anything, they are scavenging low exergy stuff suited only for trickle-charging batteries and powering low consumption things.

These kickstarter twats are talking about harvesting magical free vacuum energy and turning it into current with spinning magnets. And perhaps most importantly, no one has managed to built a waveguide big enough to bring spintronic or magnonic devices to anything bigger than the microscale.
