MTB Crit - Sat Oct 28th

MTB Criterium race on the U de M lower trail loop.
Course distance is 1.03 km and we will run for one hour.
Start time is 1 pm, show up at the course around 12 pm to warm up and stretch before the race.

We may have to move to sunday depending on weather but the course is holding up really well so I’m not too worried. We just need daylight to operate.

Let me know if the time is good/bad or whatever.

We’ll need a timekeeper and a few photographers if anyone wants to assist us.

i MIGHT be in town then and since i can’t bike i might be able to help out. i’ll have to let you know closer to the date though…

What’s is that loop like? I wanna get back into Mountain biking but since mine got stolen a few years back I haven’t exactly had the means. I’m buying a (most likely) POS commuter hybrid today from some dude for $50. You think that’d work for the UdeM trails or am I kidding myself?

Lemme KNow,
Peter

I think you can do it if you planned to by a new bike afterward and like to fall on loose leaves and stuff… i would not recommand it since it wont be good in many sections of the trail and you would most probably end up breaking it.

bye

Christina - good to hear from you again, we’ve missed you greatly. I hope you’re healing up nicely. We could use your photographic talents on the trail if you are around and available.

Peter - The course has a few (and only a few) technical rock sections that you could run your bike over if you feel they are too hairy to ride. It is guaranteed to be a bone-jarring ride without shocks so be prepared for a two-tylenol (or ibuprofin) evening and morning after. I’m sure Paris-Roubaix is equally as nasty as this course so you could probably finish with an intact bike.

Anyone else that wishes to have a fun off-road ride are encouraged to attend, just post here first so we’ll had a rough idea about # of riders competing.

Wednesday’s practice will be on the crit course so feel free to join us and check it out before committing yourself and your equipment to the race.

yo, if it starts at 1pm, I could help out with timing/pix/encouragement/yelling.

Hey Dave

I’ll be there

Mordechai

I actually have a baby shower I have to go to sometime on Saturday (Yay :? ) but I’m not sure when. Earlier on Saturday would be better, but I can probably make it anyways.

Caillan

I’ll be there too!

Jonathan

I can’t make it for the race because i work from 6:30am to around 2:30pm. Sorry, have a nice ride and enjoy.

See you later
seb

sorry david, i won’t be in town until tomorrow afternoon so i won’t be able to take pictures.:frowning: good luck to everyone though!

where is the U de M lower trail loop?

hey David, is this race happening today given the weather?

Hi,
I’ve spoken to Mordechai this morning, and given the rain and wind, we probably won’t show up this afternoon.
Jonathan

The rain seems to be pretty light (much lighter than an average Wed pm ride) so we should try to get this done today. Any later than today and we might be shovelling snow or chipping ice off our handlebars!

Danielle, I’m going to pass by the Currie Gym at 11:45ish on the way up to the race site, meet me there if you would like an escort to our ‘secret’ riding place.

See yas in an hour or so… for now, cofffeeeeeeeee

Hey,
Change in plans, Mordechai and i are coming.

Regretfully, Nadine and Leslie have a ridiculous amount of things to do today / this weekend, and since the conditions look pretty terrible right now (i.e. there is a stream in the street in front of us) they think we should perhaps put this off till tomorrow and see how it looks then.
So we won’t be there today.

that was the most awful race ever…hehehe, i am still warming up. big high five to those who made it out, thats some serious dedication. too bad we didn’t get pictures…i actually was cleaning mud out of my eyes in the shower!

Great work riders and congratulations all round for gasp actually riding in the rain.
We were freezing various body parts off so we limited the time to 30 minutes.
The race was decided by only a 3 second gap, good work!

1st Place - Marc (7 laps 28:39)
2nd Place - Caillan (7 laps 28:42)
3rd Place - Johnathan (6 Laps 30:00)
DNF - Mordechai (broke his rear derailleur 2 minutes before the start time)

It hasn’t rained since I got out of the shower, sigh.

Congrats again riders, excellent work.
