Neuvation Sponsored Team Wheel Order

Hello everyone-

I will likely be placing a team order to Neuvation Cycling soon. As you may know, the McGill cycling team is sponsored, called Neuvation
cycling, makers of fine road wheelsets.

Deadline to contact Peter if you want wheels is Oct 15th also please let me know if you have a US address we can use and wouldn’t mind bringing a few wheelsets across the border

They are offering us, in my
opinion, fantastic deals on training and racing wheels, both carbon
and aluminum. I know that many of you are perhaps considering new
equipment for the season and/or upgrading and I can tell you that new
wheels make a big difference in how your bike rides. I have a pair of
the R28 Aeros (similar in build, look and weight to Mavic Ksyrium
Elites) and like them a lot. If you are interested in checking out
what is on offer take a look at
http://www.neuvationcycling.com/index.html

Here are the prices (both wheels, just to be clear):

M28 Regulatr $150 -a regular training wheel that is 1740g, which is a decent weight and the wheel are supposedly very durable

M 28 Aero $150 -1740g 27mm deep rim semi-aero aluminum training/racing
wheel; really sturdy

R series $200 (1600g 27mm deep rim semi-aero aluminum racing wheel, also works for training but a bit less durable)

C 50’s $550 (1500g 50mm deep aerodynamic carbon racing wheels)
I think they’re tubulars but I’m not sure

C 38’s $800 (1170g 38mm deep aero carbon race wheels) similar
to Zipp 303’s

R&C series $10 Campy
Freight is $15 per set.

For the carbon wheels he has a crash replacement policy of $175 for a
new rim for everyone, and it may be cheaper for us as a sponsored
team. He also does ceramic bearing upgrades for relatively cheap if
anyone is interested.

Please email me at peter.thornhill@mail.mcgill.ca if you are
interested in getting any wheels for the season. At $150, if your
wheels are worn out or something, it’s probably the cheapest option to
replace them with the M28s. The only catch is that we have to get 3
sets for the first order as a team and he ships only to the US. But
since many of us have homes in the US and we race there regularly I
don’t see that as much of a problem.

Have a good one,
Peter

These wheels were reviewed by a member of Podium Cafe earlier this summer. I’ve recently asked if their original review stands and got the thumbs up.

Are you interested Mike? I thought I remember you said you might be. I think Tom did too, but I’m not sure. Personally I’m gonna get some training wheels to bang around.

BY THE WAY: if anybody has a US address we can use please let me know!
We would be very grateful

I think I could scrape together 200 bucks or so (I’ll have a cup for spare change at the next ride).

I’ve asked the reviewer on PdC about the ceramic upgrade and he says:

"Given how cheap they are…

yeah, totally worth the upgrade price. I’m not a gearhead, but you can tell pretty quickly that the ceramics spin much more smoothly than typical bearings. Put those ceramics in, give the wheel a spin, go watch TV for awhile and come back to find them still spinning. Pretty amazing.

The unanswered question is this: I have a lighter set of wheels that I use for racing, but they have typical bearings. Is the difference in bearing friction more important than the difference in weight? I’m not sure how to figure that one, but I’m guessing that it has a lot to do with the terrain. In doing the Everest Challenge race this past weekend (29k feet of climbing), weight was premium; in a local crit, the lowered rolling resistance might be more important."

Wheels are probably one of the most easily noticeable upgrades one can do to their road bike. Becuase of their location relative to the center of gravity on the bike, combined with their stiffness, can make very noticeable differences in ride quality and performance.

As for ceramic bearings. Although they are nice, I am not totally convinced on them for the price difference, although through the Neuvation deal, they become very justifiable. The minor weight differences between bearing types is not as much of a big deal as the rolling performance and difference… at least in my opinion.

As for me, I will not be ordering new wheels this time. My R28’s are just fine, and plus, im saving my gold for my new 2008 Trek EX8 mountain bike heh heh.

I think you save at most a couple of watts with ceramic. Nice upgrade but don’t expect too much in terms of actual performance

bump

bump?!?

Do we have a price for the ceramic upgrade? I’ll take every watt I can get.

Peter, what made you go for the R28 Aero vs the SL3? And which to you have Mike?

I’ve got the R28 aeros and I like them. Unless I’m mistaken, the only difference between these and the SLs is the bladed spokes on the aeros vs. the tubular spokes on the SLs. That makes the aeros 60 grams more. More aero dynamic wheels help at higher speeds, while lighter wheels help on climbing.

I haven’t had all that many wheels, and the other ones where 28-32 spoked ones, so it was a hell of an upgrade, but I can’t compare much. However, I do notice some lateral flex on mine. I don’t know how they’d compare to mavics or others in terms of that. I can try and see on Thursday at work.

As to sturdiness, I’ve only had them one summer, but they’ve survived a couple of crashes and only been a bit bent (and easy to fix) once after hitting. Otherwise, I haven’t had any trouble with them.

And Mike, i’ll confirm on Thursday, but i’m pretty sure we’ve got a 19" 2008 ex 8 that just arrived at our shop if you want to see it. And its rear derailleur is supposed to be awesome!

John, Let me know, I might come take it for a rip.

-Mike

OK everyone here are the prices for ceramic bearings:

M series: $35
R and Carbon wheels: $60

Please note that these are kits that you have to install yourself. I think the only tool you need is a rubber mallet. No team deal on these since he says he is selling the upgrade kits below cost. Personally, at that price I may get some just to see what all the talk about.

Mike: Aero trumps weight weenie every time man. Most of your work on the bike is overcoming air resistance and it increases exponentially with speed. Wheel weight is important but nothing compared to aerodynamics man.

OK so we are going to place an order soon so if you are on the maybe list now is your last chance to let me know if you want to buy wheels. We may not be placing the order on the 15th per se, but soon.

So far people who are interested:

Me - c50 tubulars (plus ceramic, shimano)
Tom - M28 Aero (shimano)
Tom`s buddy - M28 Aero
Goran - R28 Aero (shimano, ceramic)
David - R28 Aero (shimano)

if you want wheels but aren`t on this list please contact me. Also please let me know if you want black or silver

Ride on Team 8)
Peter

peter I forgot to tell you , could you get me them in black

Goran-

You should have already been billed and everything! You didn’t get the bill? Did you pay it?

I didn’t get the bill and the money destined for the wheels is still in my hands. So I would like to pay as soon as possible and get the wheels as fast as possible. So where do you want me to meet you to give the money and when?

Thanks

You should have received a bill via email as I told you in that email I sent to everyone. The email had a link to a secure server where you pay online with a credit card.
Check your inbox, cause the owner cc’ed me on the email. Do you perhaps check a different email regularly than gorangocevski@sympatico.ca? Or perhaps it got spam blocked.

Alex told me his parents are bringing up the two M28s that they received this weekend and will bring up the others when they get them and decide to come to Montreal later this winter.

Alright thanks Peter I will get to it and pay now.

Have a good one!!!

hi Peter,

I wanted to know if it will be possible to have a second batch of orders maybe in January or February? I’m not sure yet I’ll want to buy wheels, but I might have a clearer idea after Christmas…

thanks

Matt-

I think there might be enough interest for a pre-ECCC, very early spring ordering or something along those lines. I know Mike Hons is also pretty interested. I think we need three orders to get the deal at once though so you might have to convince someone else to get some wheels with you.

BTW…I’m going to be looking for someone else to deal with the owner in the future. I am an alumni who still rides with the team (but not this month…), but it would be awesome to have someone enthusiastic who will be at McGill for a few years to take care of things since he said he’s cool with giving us good deals but only wants to deal with one person per team
