Possible mechanical issues on an ultra-long ride

Hey all!

I’m planning to attempt a day-long 500km ride before the end of summer and wanted the advice of more experienced riders on what’s likely to go wrong mechanically and what tools I would need to fix it.

On long trips I usually pack:

  • Hex keys
  • Two spare tubes, the little plastic hooks to remove the tire, and a patch kit
  • A manual pump and one CO2 cartridge and valve
  • I will be getting tire boots

Do I have all the essentials? I really don’t want to get stranded in the middle of nowhere

Thank you!

You got the basics covered, but I would inspect my chain before leaving to make sure all the links are in good shape. Also a good idea to carry an extra quick link with a chain breaker to make sure you can swap a link and keep riding if one breaks for whatever reason

Thank you! Did not know chains could spontaneously break.
