Lots of advanced notice, but I wanted to know if anyone else was interested in racing at the Rhode Race in Providence. This is the same weekend as the Contrecoeur race, and is not on the official McGill Cycling calendar.
I was planning on bringing my family with me for a little New England getaway, and could provide a ride for someone. We (me, wife, and kid) will most likely stay at a hotel. With enough advanced notice, it is probably possible to find some host housing (to keep the costs down).
Just a few things to note: Though this race does look awesome, it’s at least a six hour drive away. This weekend is also the Contrecoeur circuit race, the opening of the Quebec road season, and it would be good to have a solid McGill showing in the early part of the Quebec season to get our sponsors some exposure (and results!) We haven’t talked about this as an executive yet but my feeling is that we will put our resources towards supporting the contrecoeur race that weekend as we had initially planned.
Yes, for sure, we’re hoping to have BIG contingents of McGill racers at Contrecoeur and also Ste. Martine the following Sunday. Most of us aren’t here all summer (including me), but these two races take place while just about everyone is still at school.
They’re also great because they’re only day trips, which take less study time away during exam period.
Eric and I will be throwing down so everyone should come check it out.
Eric and Dennis make some good points. I suggest everyone at least consider racing at Contrecoeur that weekend.
If you are still interested in racing in Rhode Island (keep in mind the $$$ and 6+ hr drive), PM me with your email address and we can start to organise something.
We went to the US, it’s just an extra $5 per day if I remember correctly.
Our driver was insured through his personal driver’s insurance, so we saved a lot by not getting any insurance through the rental company. You also save a bit more if your driver is >25.
Since the cargo van only has 2 seats, people don’t rent them often, and they are cheap, even in the high season.
