Saturday 17 January 2015 - Brevet "200km sous zéro"

This might appeal to the long-distancers in the club : Mike, Louis, Pavel, et. al.

This is a “Brevet” event, meaning you have to get a card stamped along the way. A buddy of mine did it last year. I’m gonna give it a try this year. Good way to make some base mileage. It’s not a race, easy pace.

Details : http://pages.infinit.net/cvrm/ then click on règlements

Course : https://app.strava.com/activities/107297271

Forecast at time of posting : -6’C, feels like -9’C. Not bad at all.

Soooo tempted. Will there be a lot of people?

9 people as appears from last year’s results. Hopefully a few more this year. We could get a little McGill contingent going!

Departure is in Longueuil, essentially it goes to Covey Hill and back. We’ve all done the route, but in mid-January!? Kudos guaranteed!

Also, if you’re planning on doing this, there’s a form to fill in this week : http://pages.infinit.net/cvrm/

Would it be a bad idea to try this on a mountain bike?

shouldn’t be a problem if you put slicks, I can lend you some (26’) if you don’t have any

I’m on a 29er and the tires are relatively slick. If it’s going to be fast maybe I’ll sit this one out.

What kind of bike would you need for this?

last year it was completed in 7:57 at an average speed of 25.6 km/h. If there’s several of us doing it together, our cruising speed would be around 30-32 km/h. The purpose is not to go fast but to go long. It could be considered a very long intermediate ride.

I’m going to do it on my cross bike with slick 32mm, but if you do it on your road bike, just put at least 28mm tires with some profile.

Are 35mm knobby CX tires a bad idea?

knobby is probably a good idea since a bit of snow is forecast. Haven’t quite decided myself what i’ll use.

Could everyone more or less confirm by tomorrow morning, a little organisation is still required and if you participate, you must shoot them an email to register.

I would love to ride outside but I don’t think I have the appropriate gear to keep me upright and not frozen, so I’ll pass on this one.

Btw, I will be at Cap St-Jacques on my skis, probably both Saturday and Sunday. If anybody wants to join for skiing let me know.

Pavel, do they have skate ski routes there? Or only classic?

It’s going to be -26 Saturday morning…

Vincent, I have seen there only trails for classic.

the vent has been moved to Sunday. Forecast : 2’C.

Anyone still interested?

BTW Pavel I’d like to go skiing on Saturday. How long / hard do you think you’ll be going for?

I’d go skiing on Saturday too.

I’ll go skiing out there, can drive…one more person.

BTW i thought this was sunday all along, so still works for me.
