Sensors in Shifters?

Just thought I’d put this out there before I finish rebuilding my ultegra shifters. Maybe somebody with more experience on these issues could enlighten me.

Why do they have sensors when they work well without them properly setup or even attached? What is the purpose of feeding them so far back? Whats up with the little mechanism at the end? It seems pretty pointless to me especially when the plastic plate you put over it is as solid as can be.

What colour of hood grip is totally Euro? Would white match white bartape or would I have to stick with black for that?

I wonder if you could tie dye a set of white hoods…?
would match the knee warmers

If you are talking about flight-deck equipped shifters, the sensor is there only for integration with a flight-deck compatible computer and what it does is show you the position of your derailleurs on the computer screen based on that little sensor and thats what the little mechanism is for.

The whole flight-deck integration thing was unpopular and pretty buggy to setup and so never really caught on. You don’t need to put the sensors back.

Sweet info man. They looked pretty interesting when I took them apart but it all makes sense now. Thanks.

Hood grip colours anybody. Tie die would look sick but I doubt it’ll be what I’m gonna go with:(sorry dennis;) Personally thinking of white ones but I have white bartape. Does that sorta blend work or is it just too white?

I like the white hoods. Especially if the shifters are either silver or sram black with white accents.

Red to match the rest of your bike and our kit? Only if you could get a good colour match though…
