Shimano Cable Question

So I am about to route some cables on my bike. The shimano cableset I ordered came with a short length and two long lengths of cable, four black plastic ferrules, one metal ferrule and then this other weird metal ferrule with a skinny end. Can anyone help me out with what the last one is for? (I’m new to this whole “modern components” thing.)

Do you have pics of the ferrules?

The plastic ferrules sound like the housing end caps. Does that other metal one neck down? Thats usually to prevent crap from getting into the housing at the housing ends or to fit into the lip on the rear derailleur depending on the necking.

some of them might be the housing junction into sti levers. I’d honestly get a set of the jagwire rockets for the STI junction - micro adjust on the ride is totally worth the 10$

As to microadjust, I’ll have some on the downtube. “boo-urns” you may say, but I have old school braze ons and need something to put there.

Though I found out that you can get 10sp indexed dowtube shifters. Maybe I’ll just do that. Rock the retro.

But no I will never do that.

the plastic ones are housing ends, the metal one is to sit in the rear derailleur step. And for the future, Jagwire fittings > shimano and they are in the same price range most of the time.

You can put a straight cable pass at the braze ons and use the rockets on the levers.

Where did you find the micro adjust braze on fittings? I can’t find them anywhere and I need em for that bike I’m re-outfitting.

And for all that is holy don’t do drop tube shifters - I’m spending enough effort trying to get rid of all of mine :stuck_out_tongue:
