Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays…
So I know there has been some talk of doing some ski/snowboard trips next semester with the team and just wanted to see what the level of interest is. I think Les and Nadine and I should be in town the weekend of the 12th/13th of January and was thinking maybe we could do a day trip to Jay on one of those days if people are free. If a lot of people are interested I can look into renting cars or I think there is a bus that goes to Jay on most weekends?
yayyyyyyyy
mmmmmm jay, a bit too rough for a come back on the board since i didnt do any since i started university and i wasn’t a pro back in the days, but i might be up for the challenge of going back on my snowboard
yeah! i am definitely interested. and, all my skii stuff is in mtl now, so i’m all set to go!
Aww, I’d like to come, but I’ve got a friend staying with me that weekend. I don’t think a ski trip is in the plans.
Any notice yet about another potluck? I would offer to host one before you all head to AUS/NZ, but I think it might be a little cramped at my place…
I think i could do that weekend. also, I know a few people w cars who might also be interested in going.
so i just looked into the bus that leaves from Montreal to Jay every weekend and i guess that doesn’t start until January 19th…
I haven’t given up on the idea although this last little bit of weather probably won’t help the conditions at all.
Ben do you have a handle on whether the snow will survive? Spring conditions would be sweet but rain and mud are not so hot. And if it in fact freezes like it is supposed to we might be better suited with our skates
is anyone else interested in trying to go this weekend if the weather holds?
ya, i looked up the conditions on the jay site and it says that they still have a decent amount of snow. i’m a bit skeptical though. I guess i’m probably going to decide on thursday or friday whether or not i will be going.
why dont you try to go somewhere more north (tremblant, quebec city region) since it is more north, it is cooler, which means more snow left and more snow actually fell on the ground usually?
well, jay is way closer and better that the quebec city area, and its true what jay says, they still have tons of base. however, i think I would wait until we get a decent amount of snow first, because if it gets cold again right now ALL the mountains are going to turn bulletproof.

haw hits Quebec’s ski slopes
The mild weather has forced about 60 Quebec ski hills to close because of poor conditions, including Village Vacances Valcartier and Le Relais Ski Centre.
In the Eastern Townships, Ski Bromont operators closed half of their runs on Tuesday.
Ski hill operators have no hesitation shutting down for a few days when there is a thaw, explained Alexis Boyer-Lafontaine, a spokesman for Quebec’s Ski Hill Operators Association.
“Ski areas tend to close their operations or reduce their operations when we get warmer temperatures like this, to preserve ski conditions for the weekend,” he told CBC News.
Many outdoor skating rinks in Montreal and Quebec City are also closed.
so i’m thinking the skiing is a no-go. Sorry guys.
