Stolen Schwinn cruiser

Hello all. My partner is a new McGill prof., and had the exceedingly bad fortune to have her bike stolen this weekend. It is (was) a lovely black and white Schwinn cruiser with a 3 speed Nexus hub (a repro model). It was locked in a well-lit, nice neighborhood and taken between 8:30 and 10:30 pm Friday night.

I doubt we’ll see it again, but just in case, I checked Craigslist, Kijiji, various Univ. classifieds, and Ebay.

We also made a trip to Velomakak. That particular locale seemed highly suspect. I was on my bike (which is an older cruiser that the thieves passed up that night) and can only say that the way the Velomakak guys were looking at my bike seemed to be with too much familiarity. Apologies if they really are a legit biz…just hard to believe from what I saw.

Anyhow, if anyone comes across a pristine black and white Schwinn 3 speed, please do post to this forum. Also, if any of you have suggestions on other places to look, I would welcome them.

Thanks,
Andy

Thanks LgReno. Wow, glad you got your bro’s bike back and caught the guy (well, sounds like the guy anyway). So, in Montreal, if someone has stolen goods that they bought in good faith, they are legally entitled to keep them??!
Yikes.

On the one hand, having had bikes stolen before, I am tempted to not torture myself thinking about this one; on the other hand, you never know what will turn up.

And what kind of lock exactly was protecting this pristine bicycle outside at night?

My sympathies for the bike, but don’t leave anything you’ll miss without a good (expensive and heavy) lock, especially at night in a quiet area. Were you actually surprised?

How dare you insult the fine folks at Velomakak.

actually, good faith applies anywhere in Quebec
