FINAL PLANS

These are the final plans. We are leaving Saturday Morning at 7am sharp. Arrive at the Roddick gates at 6:30am (you trying to kill us marc? what about partying on friday night? huh? - sorry!). We will be arriving at Kingdom Trails at around 9am ish and go straight to trailbuilding in the morning. Bring a packed lunch . We MAY have time to grab a sandwich on the way down if we stop for gas, but don’t count on it.

The afternoon of the 14th the MTBer’s will be riding out on the trails, and roadies will head out from East Burke. I am in contact with local road clubs to locate a bigger group too.

We are then staying with the Adlers that evening. Dinner will be served and we will all help and clean up. Bring your own sleeping bag and pillow if you have one.

Sunday we will ride out at 9am after a hearty New England breakfast and packed lunchs made at the Adlers. We will head off to East Burke and head out for the day from there.

We will prepare to leave East Burke at 4pm. this is an approximate time, since exact return from the trails and roads is tough to call, but I want to get everyone back to Montreal at a reasonable time. I want us to be home at 6-7pm.

As I mentioned in later posts, if you are on the below list, you have until tonight to be removed or added. Afterwards you will be held responsible for costs! Also, if you haven’t paid team fees, you will need to have paid them the morning we go.

What you can expect:

Roadies: Ben has planned several routes for you, 97-161km in length, but in any case vermont is criss-crossed with hundreds of small rolling roads. The one down side is that his house is on a dirt road. The terrain is very hilly, but there are several lakes that you can circle and valleys that provide smooth riding. The folliage should be in full force anyhow!

MTB’ers: I’m going to say it. Kingdom Trails is the greatest place to Cross Country on the east coast. thats a non-negotiable, undebatable assertion of how much better this place is than anything you’ve ever seen. We will do a bit of trailbuilding (roadies welcome!!!) for half a day and contribute to this incredible system, and ride the rest of the time.

Accomadation: The Adlers have very generously opened up their home to us. We will be staying in a superfly house on a lovely plot of land in Barnet Vermont. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag, or borrow one, we dont want to overload their laundry basket. We will be buying food so we’re not total moochers.

Transit: We will be taking two vans and my car.

COST: Transport Costs will be $35 a person, food will come to approximatly $15-20 a person (it has yet to be bought), and finally MTBers will have to pay a trail access fee of $10USD per day, although I’m taking to the President of the association and he mentioned waiving it on the first day because of the trailbuilding.
To recap: MTBers: $61-76 CAD
Roadies: $50-55 CAD

Note: Cell phone do not work there, so leave your life behind.

Important update: There is a limited number of places. I spoke with the Adlers and they only have so much room, so in considerations we’re going to cap the numbers around 12-15. It will be on a first come first serve basis.

Have fun everyone!

I just wanted to correct the post above by your fearless trip leader Marc:

the planned road rides I got from local Vermont road riders. They are between 60 and 100 MILES each, which translates to between 97 KM and 161 KM.

A 100 mile ride is long for any rider, and if there are beginning road riders on the Vermont trip (which I hope there will be) then they may elect to go on one of the 60 mile rides instead. If there were enough road riders, maybe there could be multiple road rides going on at the same time. Also, some of the rides can be EXTENDED from 60 miles to something longer, if you decide you want to ride more.

However, I think most cyclists (with a relatively well seasoned butt) have 100 miles in there legs. Two days in a row, though? That may be a lot.

One more note: as for the “volunteer” trailbuilding at Kingdom Trails, I’m gonna go ahead and say that it should be mandatory for the road bikers as well, as those of you who were on the trip last year know that we owe it to Kingdom Trails. It would be great to have the biggest group possible together to work on the trails, and show that McGill really wants to help out. Probably there will only be time for a 60 mile loop on that day, possibly even shorter, depending on how fast the group will be riding.

One final point: While its true that my house is on top of a mountain with a dirt road being the only way to access it, I think that most of the road rides ORIGINATE from East Burke, VT, where Kingdom trails is. (Paved roads, all the way.) However, there is great paved road riding starting near my house, as long as you drive to and from the starting point.
I have actually ridden down my hill on a road bike, and it is possible. Its pretty steep though, and you have to be a little careful. Riding up it is ok too, as long as you pedal smoothly, and don’t spin out every pedal stroke.

Actually, while I am still up, (it’s 3:45 am Tokyo time) I just wanted to point out that you have to watch the weather VERY CAREFULLY on the days leading up to the trip, so we don’t have a repeat of last year. Marc, you will be in charge of saying Yea or Nay two or three days before expected departure. I might recommend having a rain date, as well.

Ben

If it rains, we will not be allowed to ride on the MTB trails so a rain date would be a good idea to schedule.

As it is, the 14th and 15th of October is good for me.

Count me in.

Its gonna be an awesome weekend! the 14th and 15th are better for me…I wont think abou the few midterms I have when I get back, whatever!

Vermont was so awesome last year, everyone should come!

Mel

I’d really like to go but I’m not sure yet if I’ll still be here. That interview I had in Akron, Oh, was terrific but the enrollment process seems a bit heavy so I’m told a still have a few weeks here. I’ll confirm as soon as possible.

P-A

hi

since you are saying that the places are mainly all filled, would it be possible to have a last update on who are at each date ??

thanks
seb

To all who are coming:

Be sure you have legal right to enter the US

Be sure you can get your hands on a sleeping bag

Hey
If there’s room, count me in!

Hey Marc,

I’m sadly beginning to work this saturday for every week :? Kind of need the blé (wheat means money sometimes in french) though. So if anyone wants to hop along and arrive at Vermont saturday night with me just in time for a music jam feel free to come along. I’ll definitely ride on suday… 8)

tell me if there’s anything

Hey Dan-

Let me know if you’re still going next week. I might take you up on your offer. I have this keg party that Friday  that I’d really rather not miss, but It’d be cool maybe to at least get in a day of riding

TTYL,
PEter

Hey

I hope there is still space because I really want to do it. Both the weekend of the 14-15 and 21-22 are good dates.

Mordechai

(Dave, you have been marking me down as Moti on your presence sheet but mordechai is better)

Hey, I’d like to join the rugrats as well if there’s room … I guess we’ll know more about that next week? Also don’t kow if Dan has room for more in his car?.. You can strap Peter on the roof.

Danielle-

A little PO’d after I wrecked your tube this morning eh?

Heyheyhey!

Can you put me on the list to come to Vermont, PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE?

I can make both the regular date and the rain date, and I am also 21 so I can prolly drive if you need me to rent a car. (I guess you have to be 25 sometimes, but there are places that you can be 21 I think, right?)

Anyhow, I MUST go to Vermont!!!

Thank yous!
~KIERAN HUMPHRIES

hey marc,
sadly, i will be unable to go to Vermont (even though I really, really want to go :frowning: ). So i guess someone else can go instead. Hope you guys have an amazing time.

Hi Marc,
even if i wasn’t on the official list, I wont be able to come, at least for the official date (maybe the rain date) because of 3 exams, 1 project and 2 assignment due next week and I am having my training at a new job this weekend…

have fun guys

bye
