Hi everyone, it’s almost Toguri Time! We’ll start our annual power classes right at the beginning of the Winter Term, but we need an idea of numbers now. I posted the details from last year below, and it should be very similar this year. This is a GREAT way to keep fit over the winter, and especially good prep for South Carolina and spring racing. Recommended for all levels!

20% I need to be convinced…

What’s Toguri training?
“Computraining classes are coached cycling workouts performed on computerized indoor trainers. Computrainers simulate riding on a huge variety of courses–hilly, flat and downhill (!)– while visually representing the terrain on television monitors. The many other features embedded in the Computraining software allow coaches to accurately measure your fitness gains while improving your riding skills as you power through an enriched, fun, training experience.”
Basically, we’re coached through an hour workout once a week and get to see our power, which is pretty cool and helpful.
The other details:
Location: YM-YWHA, 5400 Westbury Ave, about 5 min from the Snowdon subway station.
Cleats: The bikes are set up with Look Keo, so people may have to buy their own cleats. They might have some in stock if needed. They cost $27.58 (same as what we paid), or $40 installed.
“We will offer McGill cycling members same rates as last year ($20 plus tax per class = $220+ tx for the fall), Plus $60+tx Y-Premium.
The session runs from Jan to April
For a total of 14 weeks, at 1 class per week, a total cost of $280+tx
Tues/Thurs 6:30pm times slots are being held for McGill Racing.” (might be different for this year, we’ll see)
Slots are limited to 8 per class (though if there’s more interest in that we can definitely get you into other classes, it’s just fun to be together in the McGill classes!) so be sure to sign up–first come, first serve.
Would there be any way to join on a different basis than a “full semester membership”? I would be super interested but have a very irregular schedule at the hospital! Thanks!
I’m pretty sure if you talk to Michelle from Toguri (you can contact them on their website), you can go as a drop-in for individual classes! Or you can sign up for the full classes and then make up the ones that you have to skip on different days.
Alright guys, all this interest looks great! Now’s time for the official signups. We have enough people that we’ll fill two classes, one on Wednesday at 6:30pm and one on Tuesday at 6:30pm. Signing up means that your spot is reserved, but you have to be committing to it (and there are only 8 spots in each class, so do it quickly!) You’ll have to make a deposit soon (about $50) that will do towards your payment and hold your spot.
Reminder: it’s first come, first serve for spots in classes, which means there’s only one left in Tuesday (there’s no way for me to limit the number of signups available, but the 7 people plus the next person to sign up will be the 8 chosen). Sign up to grab your spot! (And only if you’re definitely in)
New notes:
The classes will be running for 12 weeks, starting the week of January 3 and ending a few weeks after South Carolina in March.
-Same prices per class as last year.
-I’ll forward the email with signup info once you’ve signed up in the “confirmed” signup above (later this week, once I get the info)
-Classes will actually be at 6:45, not 6:30pm.
-If we have enough interest (more than the 16 to fill two classes) we have the potential of being able to add in a third class on Thursday evenings. (If Thursday is the only day that works for you, let me know.)
I’ve sent a PM about registration to everybody who’s confirmed in the second signup. If you sign up after now, let me know and I’ll forward it along. The Tuesday class is full but Wednesday has 3 spots left and as I said, we might be able to get another class going if we can get the interest.
They’re going to be cracking down on people walking through the gym with bags/coats/shoes
Make sure to pay the Y-access premium at the front desk if you haven’t yet, they’re not going to keep letting us get in just because we’re with toguri.
