TPR - The Introduction - Tuesday 9th of September - 6:45AM

This will be an introduction ride to TPR - Team Points Ride, which will happen every Tuesday throughout the fall. This is a great team building ride and if you plan on racing with us or want to hone your skills this ride comes highly recommended by yours truly. The pace is intermediate+/advanced but for the first week we will slowly ramp up the pace every lap so everyone has a chance to get comfortable and we won’t be riding full gas like we will once TPR officially starts.

If you are interested in coming signup because I will be making teams of 3-5 the night before!

The plan is to meet at the hairpin turn at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve at 6:45am (Here). There will also be a group leaving from the Roddick Gates at 6:20am. We will start with a warm up lap ~30kph. We then race THREE rounds of TWO laps. We will regroup after every round but TPR is a fast ride where we don’t wait for dropped riders until we regroup. If your interested in doing TPR once it officially starts this is a great way to see if you have the fitness, we encourage everyone to come out and try it out. Future racers are strongly encouraged to participate. We usually end in time to get back for 8:35am classes.

Points are collected as follows:

1pt for the team that takes intermediate sprint on lap 1
3pts for the team of the first women that takes the finish line on lap 1
5pts for the final sprint at the end of lap 2
1pt for second place at the end of lap 2
for a total of 10pts each round and 30pts available throughout the 3 rounds

Just a few important notes:

–BE ON TIME

–the track is not busy early in the morning so there is no need to be weaving through the potentially dangerous divisions on the track

Hope to see a great turnout and meet some future McGill racers!

Jacques Villeneuve? Is this a new one?

The F1 circuit is named after him. He was an F1 pilot.

Wasn’t his name Gilles? (Gilles was Jacque’s father!)

Ah well, oops.

I’d like to try this but I’m not sure if my fitness levels up to par. Since it’s for points I’d rather not sewer somebody’s team. Should I bother signing up? Can I try week 1 and drop out if I can’t keep pace? Thanks

I realize this is the “Introduction”, but I thought we had determined last year that the ride to the track was the warmup, such that we could start racing right away when we arrive.

cheers

Brendan, don’t worry. Points are accumulated on an individual basis and carried over from week to week. I raced last year didn’t earn any personal points but had a ton of fun. Team wins are more just for bragging rights that day. It’s also great for getting comfortable racing in a tight pack.

Teams are made up by spreading the caliber of riders across the field, so there will be riders of the same level on other teams as well.

Actually, it’s 100% a team thing. There are no individual points, and it’s about learning how to work as a team, sacrificing yourself and so on. Bringing breaks back for the team, lead-outs, breaks, pulling… It’s the closest thing to a race you will find, and really good to learn how to do it before actually facing a field.

sorry guys about ALLL the confusion caused by my error in remembering which Villeneuve the track was named after!

No wonder I didn’t do very well. Trust Jon over me every time.

Because there are so many first timers I think it will be a good idea to do the warm up lap. Next week will will start right away so that we can finish a little earlier. Remember to sign up before 8pm tonight when I will be posting teams.

also bringing club ($40) or team ($100) membership money to this ride if you plan to keep riding with us throughout the fall, I will be collecting!

Great turn out (we had 4 teams and at least 20 riders participating!) and some really competitive and tough racing hope everyone had a good time! If you got dropped don’t be discouraged because the learning curve for racing in a pack is steep and by next week you’ll already be able to hold on longer.

Someone gave me $40 for club fees and I have forgotten who, please PM if it was you!

And finally for the results!

If I have gotten any of the results wrong let me know. I tried to calculate the team points but I’m really not sure if they are accurate because teams changed up a bit.

Team 1: 13pts
Team 2: 6pts
Team 3: 1pts
Team 4: 10pts

Hope to see everyone next week!

Dibbs MatBr Pavel and Nick, we were practicing the other day

this week we might change things up a bit from past years and try:
-3pts for the team of first women that takes the finish line on lap 1
instead
-3pts for the team that takes the finish line on lap 1
we will see how this works this week and in following weeks as long as there are enough women signed up we will keep it this way

Not sure what the record turn out for TPR is but this must be close, super excited to have so many people showing up. But on that note it may be a little hairy on the track with so many people trying to fight for positioning so please be attentive and careful and most importantly remember no positioning is worth a kiss with the pavement. Remember to signal and not to weave through the barriers.

Here are the teams, there is no chance I remember them so at least remember your team # if not some of the people who are on your team! If you sign up after the teams are made don’t worry we will give you one tomorrow.

Hey Phillipe,

Sorry for this late response. I caught a nasty cold and I forgot I had signed up for the TPR tomorrow. Terribly sorry, I won’t be able to make it.
