Try Outs Ride Leaders

We are looking for returning MCT members to volunteer to help lead a group of riders during tryouts. Last year there were too many people with not enough group leaders. This year we will be prepared, and in a perfect world ready to split the Road tryouts into as many as 5 distinct groups. As a ride leader, you will be responsible for leading your small group of riders safely through traffic for the duration of your ride and evaluating the skill levels of new riders. Don’t be afraid to give pointers and don’t be afraid to tell someone that they need to ride more safely if you see them riding dangerously.
We will have a set ride for each of the 5 groups, with some overlap. Groups will leave the gates at regularly spaced intervals. Think military precision, here.

Mountain bikers will be similarly split up, but we probably will only need about 3 or 4 group leaders, including me.

Please sign up if you are willing to lead a group for either Road or Mountain.

i’m truly paranoîd when it comes to riding a pack, so i’m looking forward to safety-drill the new members.

Also, maybe you’ve already talked about this in the Team-only section, but are you going to have a general safety presentation (maybe at the hair-pin bend), e.g. what distance to keep, gradually moving off the front, etc.?

I’m not a MCT member, but I’d be glad to help if I’m free. I don’t know what a mountain bike is, though.

Those big clunky things you always pass on paths?

mountain bike? I think you mean this thing flying over the TdF?

…and promptly crashing after :stuck_out_tongue:

whatever, he didn’t get a chance to practice the jump because he didn’t want to give it away.

i could give a hand. i have some expertise in trying to avoid car crash.

I can lead a pack of whichever type, signing up in mtb since we seem to have less of these leaders.

hi,
i’d like to help out. Can I signup for helping out with the roadie ride?

Thanks Jon, we could definitely use you in the MTB tryouts.

And sure matt, go ahead and sign up. We’ll take all the helpers we can get.

hey guys. firstly, we need all the ride leaders to be at the gates at 8:45, so we can give you your assignments. Related: we need more road leaders. Vic, M.E. , some other returning team member? Basically we are gonna split the roadies into 5 groups (assuming we have around 50 people show up) and so it would be great if we could have one leader at the front, and one at the back, of each group. For those returning members, it would be more helpful to us that you be a leader rather than “trying out,” since you will probably make the team anyways.
Christina/leslie: can one of you be a mountain leader if we need a 3rd group of mountain bikers? Not sure how many there will be.

Thanks

ben

yes i am in for separating all returning members, i think it would be also more fun for the new people so that they could feel more safe and be able to ask their questions about the team.

Ya, I can definitely be a ride leader if there enough mtb’ers. Keep in mind i will be hella slow since I haven’t ridden since November and haven’t done any physical activity in a month :frowning:

i am more than willing to be a leader and possibly make the girls less scared of you big guys… i know i was last year! (although i don’t really know what i was thinking… you’re all just skinny white guys anyways…)

Are we that skinny??? I think we are not of the type showing our muscles. Guys i think we should start thinking about our reputation!

sorry, something came up…

i can lead too if needed (this is Leslie).

All ride leaders (and other returning members, if possible) PLEASE MEET AT THE GATES AT 8:45 so we can have a little pep talk. Thank you leslie, we will take your help for sure.

super last minute warning, but there is a 24 hour roller blading relay going on on the Villeneuve track.

I was there tonight and I think it could be a fairly dangerous situation to have new road riders (especially new to group riding) mixed in with all those bladers.
