there are two slots available to race (xc MTB, and short track MTB) in southern vermont this coming weekend, saturday sept 29th. we would drive down to my parents house on friday evening, sleep over, get up early and drive a further 1.5 hours south.
First come first served. PM if you want to come.
what do you mean two slots available ?? I want to race next weekend and i am not sure in which yet (short track or regular XC). Do we know at what time does the race start ?
IMPORTANT NOTE: the race is actually on the 30th (the SUNDAY) - sorry, this is a mistake on my part, I thought the race was on the 29th. Here’s the site for the Dartmouth Green Monster that has the times and everything for the races… http://www.eccc-info.com/2007/flyers/2007_09_30_dartmouth.pdf
Well sunday just might do my thing
but the thing is how much would it cost like to stay down there
plus youd need a licence to race
and would we be back sunday night
cause i have a class to observe/teach on monday morning.
well, here’s the deal.
We don’t all have to race the same place on the same weekend. if some people want to race in ontario, then cool, represent over there. (I personally, would prefer to race where there are hills). Also, the leaves in vermont will be B-E-A utiful this weekend. Even cooler, we can stay at my parents house the night before. The race fees for the ECCC race are also really low, $13 for the XC and $10 for the short track! So if we get a car and manage to rent it for one day (like we did this last time) then I bet we could get the cost closer to $60 a person, or less. (housing would of course be free).
the problem is, my house is limited to 6 racers, it being a spur of the moment trip and all. So I said 2 slots left because christina, leslie and nadine had already said they were interested, and I am def. going, so that left 2 spots.
But now I’m not sure, cuz I don’t know when we would get back and if the twins could come.
google says 3hrs 40 min driving time straight back, Ascutney to Montreal.
So, we could leave at 3 pm and be back before 7. (that is assuming we don’t do the mens A short track, which I would def. like to try)
I have no real yank to get back to montreal. but if we got back early-ish maybe we could get the cars back in on the same day? when did they close, christina/leslie?
oh, and as far as leaving montreal on saturday, any time is fine with me, as long as we get to my house (2.5 hrs away) at a reasonable dinner time. so I guess we could leave as late as 6 pm, about.
well i wouldnt mind racing in vermont on sunday
but i would def have to be home that night like not too late
because i still have my stage
if were home not too late
and the price is reasonable
and i could take my toyota, assuming i dont pay all the gas.
im in.
as for the gas, it is always shared between the racers, i’m up for some race to. The rental fees will be more expensive, since the last one did not allow us to go to the states because of the insurance, so these same insurance will cost more to rent for that day (i have no idea how much more). i am pretty sure that we will end up being more than 6 racers, so what would we do in such case?
I think its only an extra 5 or 10 dollars to go to the states.
and as for more than 6 racers, I’m sorry but only 6 racers can stay at my house, I don’t want to push my parents on that. if extra racers really really want to come, then I guess they could stay at a motel/hotel “near” my house, or near the race for that matter.
here is what i am thinking:
Les and I definitely want to race. If there are 6 people and 6 bikes we would need to rent a van or a couple cars. SO, if Anton brings his car (no worries, you will get reimbursed for gas), then we could also rent a small car. Les and I could drive the car back and that way we could leave whenever we need to (we actually need to be in North hatley by 6, so we could just drive straight from the race to N. H. ). The other 4 people could then stay at the race as long as their hearts desire, do short track, whatever, then head back all in Anton’s car. We could even take a third bike on our car if needed and if there is someone who doesn’t want to do both races. Thoughts?
if people want to race and can’t come to ben’s house you can always leave early the day of or maybe camp somewhere near the race site. If there are people interested in doing this or even if a carload of people are heading to Port hope to race I can reserve some cars for you - just let me know. also, people might be able to stay at our house in kingston if they are heading to port hope (so for saturday night), which would make the drive much more manageable and would be cheaper. Please post if you are thinking you might want to do this. Thanks.
k well my car is a toyota corolla, including myself i can fit 4 people and fit some bags in the back and one bike in the trunk. Along with a nice bike rack that means i can take a total of 4 bikes. If we can be home Sunday night at a good time (like max 9pm). That sounds fine. We could meet at the metro longueil or something? Cause thats easier for me to get down to?
There is a campground called Ascutney State Park right near the race location by the looks of it, that might be a good possibility if people want to go down on the Sat. but can’t stay at Ben’s place. I believe it is 14$/night.
So i’m going to go ahead and make a reservation for 1 car then. Let me know if plans change… like if you can’t get your car for some unforseen reason. I don’t see any reason why you guys wouldn’t be able to get back by 9. It is up to you when you leave the race.
