Walkie Talkies

Hey-

So it might be nice to be able to communicate amongst our caravans when driving around and getting lost in New England. Does anyone have some walkie talkies? When I was younger on the swim team we used to use them to communicate between cars and just generally BS the whole drive down and it was pretty fun. Nick and I were a little anxious when the van got stuck, you guys left, and we were incommunicado with 12 bikes in the van heading for the US border alone. It might have been nice to have some in that instance. If we can’t borrow some, it might be worth the investment for the team as they’re like less than $50 for a set and we could use them for years afterwards.

What do you think?

I think this is a great idea. They would be very handy for in-house events like the uphill time trial and off-road crits.

I’ve seen them at places like Future Shop and Best Buy for ~$50/pair.

I have a pair which i can bring next time we go (and lend anytime, havent used them in years).

Why don’t you just use your cell phones? Surely 3-4 people have them which can be split, and cost isn’t much if you only use it when your lost, or waiting on someone.

Cells arent a really good option because if travelling long distance, charges can get pretty pricey, especially if phones are on roam, and when local, few people have unlimited local minutes. Walkie Talkies would allow easy communication btw cars close together and at events.

If the team bought 2 of the same model Jonathan has then we could have 4 for a total price of say $50. Might be tricky to find compatible ones though…

Someone get a price quote to Christina and go from there.

well we dont need to have the exact same ones. As long as the frequencies are matched, it doesnt matter which make it is.

Ill look on Ebay too, it would probably be alot cheaper.

uhhh yeah… i can get a set for $5-15 on Ebay.

make it so then…
see if you can get ones that could in theory match frequency with Jonathan’s
