Where's the closest bike shop?

Where’s the closest bike shop to campus? A friend of mine is looking for a bike lock.

Just go to the hardware store, buy a 3ft long length of heavy duty chain and a burly padlock that will fit through the links, and slide an old inner tube over the chain to protect your bike and then you’re golden. Should be able to put a lock together for 30 dollars that’s as burly as most any bike lock in stores.

There is sports experts downtown (I may be mistaken but corner of metcalfe and St C). I’m pretty sure they have locks and its pretty close.

Ben, you aren’t paying for lock quality when you buy commercially, you are paying for the insurance

right, insurance. if you need insurance on your bike, you shouldn’t be locking it up downtown.

Thanks! But also I am wondering where the closest “real” bike shop is…?

Hi hannah,
I have a bike lock I could sell you that would save you a trip to a store.
I’ll bring it to spin tomorrow and you can take a look at it.
It’s new and unopened.

Otherwise I’d say the closest store is cycletechnique.

Depending where you live la Bicycletterie is closer than CT - I’ve had small things like minor wheel truings there done well and cheaply.

Also,

ABC on park near st-viateur,
Le Yeti on St-Laurent & Fairmount
La Cordée, Ste-Catherine East & Parthenais
Le Grand Cycle, Cherrier & St-andré

Worth mentioning: La Cordee is probably the cheapest bike shop on the Island close to downtown.

If you have google earth, here’s a bunch more of them that come up when you zoom in to Montreal. Nearly all are bike shops but a few are co-ops. Hope this works for y’all.
