Winter Training!!!

Hi Everyone!

With summer and its warm days well behind us, it’s time we start having some fun indoors!

McGill Cycling offers spinning sessions three times a week, starting this week (week of the 19th of November 2018), until the end of the winter semester, with a gap in between semesters, and also a short pause while most members are riding in South Carolina (South Carolina Feeler Post!) during the Spring Break.

Each of the training sessions offered are part of a larger structured plan, specially developed by our sponsor, and coach, Scott McFarlane from Toguri Training Systems. Scott is well known for being coach of the pro-continental Silber Pro Cycling Team, and has taken many Canadian cyclists to the higher echelons of professional cycling, including but not limited to the World Tour. You can find out more about him here, or simply by searching him up on Google.

We will be offering sessions on the following days, in the spin room at the McGill Sports Complex:

  1. Wednesdays, from 7AM to 8AM.
  2. Fridays from 7AM to 8AM.
  3. Sundays from 9AM to 12PM.

Our spin sessions are meant to be doable by everyone, regardless of their strength, as this form of training is all based on effort relative to one’s abilities! It is also an excellent way to hang out with other members, and offers great training for all those who want to be better and stronger on the saddle come spring.

Our instructors have ample experience with this form of training, and are always willing to assist newcomers with interval-based exertions, and more broadly speaking, all aspects of becoming a better cyclist.

The spin bikes we use accommodate both SPD-pedals, as well as regular training shoes. It is recommended that attendees also invest in a heart-rate monitor, which tends to be inexpensive, and is more importantly a great training tool (more about exertion levels later, during our spin sessions!). Other things you would probably want to bring along with you to these sessions are a bottle or two of water, and a towel.

You need to be, at the very least, a club member to join us for these sessions. This more than pays of considering that you get spinning sessions formulated by a professional coach, 3 times a week, for more than 15 weeks ! And of course, you are more than welcome to trial a session or two before committing to a membership.

Let me know if you have any questions in particular, and I’d be happy to talk.

Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you at our spin sessions!
