so I’m going to Whistler for 10 days to spend time with the family. That should last about a day at which point I will need to do something interesting. I want to do some light downhill runs (never done them), but renting a bike there is stupid (like $80 a day or something). So, two possibilities, either I buy a downhill for $400 or less(is this possible) and resell it after my trip. Or, in everyone’s professional opinion, would my CX bike cut it for the easier (Green/blue) runs at whistler).
If you’re going to whistler, just suck it up and rent a long-travel FS bike. You’re not going to EVER get to ride stuff like that out east. Enjoy it and don’t let your equipment ruin your day. On an XC bike you will be too far forwards to descend with confidence, and you’ll get bounced right around…
Yeah it’s expensive, but how often do you get to ride a place like Whistler?
I agree with John. Renting the bike may seem expensive but if you’re doing downhill for the first time at a place like Whistler, it would be well worth it to be riding a burly downhill bike to get the full experience. It will not disappoint.
With it or not I simply do not have $80 a day plus lift tickets. That being said, looks like a may have a nice 5x5 in the works to borrow :). Its going to be one epic week!
get the biggest bike you can afford and wear all the body armour you can scrounge. Keep your weight back, and start on the easiest trails. Don’t be too proud to walk if you get in over your head.
