I thought about how this might work. Bringing two bikes per person might be a bit much, especially cause you can’t load more then two mtb’s on a trunk rack because they weigh so much. It might work to mtb trails on saturday, then ride whiteface with the mtb as well. Our campsite, if i can get the one i want, will be just a few KM’s from the base. Plus mtb’s have those little girly 16 tooth front rings don’t they?
does anyone’s car have a trailer hitch? I can get access to a trailer hitch rack which can easily handle two MTBs - I’ve also that other rack we took to the climbing loop.
The MTBing is purely if logistics permit so don’t even worry about it. I’ve just got the itch to play in the dirt after looking at the trails in the area.
@ Adam: you can also usually rent a lot of that stuff at outdoor stores like le Yeti
I was actually lucky enough to be able to borrow a tent and sleeping bag from a friend, but I’m going to write down the name of that store for the future. Thanks.
actually, three of my four mountain bikes only have one ring up front. (32 X2 plus one with a 36)
See the original post for updates RE:camping.
Have you figured out what is needed for bike racks and stuff yet?
Hey everyone!!!
I’ve set up another threat in the team only section. It’s private so we can share telephone numbers, emails, etc. see it here

Scott: I am really sad that I am in Calgary for this. I am excited to see how it goes though, and I might replicate it in the fall.
Thanks so much for organizing an AWESOME weekend Scott!
Here are most of the pictures I took this weekend. The majority of them are from my/Leslie/Ben’s epic mountain hike/bike adventure but the ones of us on Whiteface are there too.

Thanks again for the trip, Scott. It was awesome!
Yes it was awesome!
Scott I also owe you money.
I also owe you money Scott for the awesomeness your planning provided.
And about my wheel, I have emailed Neuvation and am awaiting a response, and Jason, I looked up those campy “bomb-proof” wheels and I’m getting the impression that my shimano cassette would not be compatible. Isn’t that the issue that Danby had?
Hey Guys and Girls!
I had a great time this weekend! My legs are still sore from the climb.
I’m going to tally up the costs and figure out a system of collecting from everyone this weekend. i’m cramming hardcore for the GMAT which i’m writing on friday so once that’s done i’ll have a look at my credit card statement and figure out a fair way of chopping it up.
Thanks again for coming!
Scott.
You can convert the freehub body over to shimano - the body is usually 60-80$ more but the lower price range campys are hardly expensive wheels.
The problem John had was that the shimano freehub body wasn’t updated to the new “reaction” version of the hub so he needed to make an additional spacer. You should ask him for more specifics.
You can also look into the Scirocco’s or mavic’s offerings.
You could always get a medium profile rear wheel built up with a 36 hole hub using a 3cross - 2 cross crows foot lacing.
Its quite possible all the problems you are having are because of crap spoke nipples, but I wouldn’t rule out a benefit of going to an asymmetric rear wheel and straight pull spokes are better than J-bends (not that you’ve broken an actual spoke).
I should add that given that you’ve broken two nipples in such a short period, it suggests there might be something wrong with the whole batch of nipples or the way your wheel was assembled. I’d stress a wheel replacement with neuvation.
I told the Neuvation guy that I wanted a warranty replacement for the wheel, but I’m also in the market for what I would classify as “zombie wheels” for training, nomatter what you do to try to kill them, they keep on going. And then I will use these light wheels for racing in the spring.
And if I understand what your saying, I would buy a campy wheelset, and a shimano rear hub and switch out the hubs? Also I’m not sure what the different spoke patterns are so you description of crows confused me. I’ll just ask you on the ride this afternoon.
you don’t change the hub, just the freewheel (the part that contains the pawls and the splines).
hey Scott,
Just wondering if you have any idea about the cost of the weekend yet…i’d rather get the money out of my pocket before I forget that I owe you guys and run out
Hey All!
i’m going to be collecting early next week and i’ll set up a meeting place/time/ride. i’m still GMATing as i decided to push my test back until saturday. i’ll post a cost breakdown this weekend, until then, my brain is mush and focused only on that…
thanks for hanging on!
