Spring road conditions

Just a word of caution, there is a decent amount of gravel on Houde, in particular the first section of the climb (DON’T come down My Pleasent and take a right with speed), and around the right hand turn on the decent, as my front wheel will attest.

It’s mostly on the shoulder but can get kicked to the actual road.
Remembrance is much cleaner.

In it’s quest to keep the streets ice-free, the city has begun salting. The Houde feels like it’s covered in Gatorade. I assume it’s beet juice + salt, but it’s pretty gross, and gunks the bike up pretty bad, on top of being sticky and slippery at the same time.

They’ve started salting?? ugh

Ice Breaker is under Construction. Estacade is Clear but the lead up to it requires intermediate to advanced cross skills. Lachine Canal Bike paths are still snowed in.

Just some fancy fense hoping to get to estacade? I assume you went the non-F1 route

F1 is a snow hole, don’t even bother with it for another week or so

Today Sunday the estacade is fine all the way down to the rapids and even the bike path around the little forest near the rapids. the short path beside the firehouse is covered with ice but once you reach the fence is absolutely clean. the short road beside the firehouse is free of ice. They are doing some work on the icebridge so some part are somewhat narrower. No problem for roadbikes. As far as I know the Estacade is accessible all year long, you just have to look a little closer.

There is snow everywhere.

That’s deep.

Update: still bad

My motivation to train indoors went to shit immediately after SC

solution: go back to SC

Wax your skis!

The most optimistic news says that all the streets will be rideable again in Mtl. by next week. Source: unknown.

It’s back up to 3-4 deg C by early next week, looking good for sure.

Come to the spin tonight. It’s not the typical painful, boring spin. It’s a different kind of painful, boring spin. I haven’t seen you there all winter, Dennis. Try it once, then you’ll be back on the road next week.

For those of you who might not know this yet, a facebook group was created to unify the multiple Montreal road cycling forums, regarding RIDE posting.
