Yah, but guys, you know you can’t win a 1-2 race with hairodynamics.
I’m going to back adler up, the day that we took off and did nothing was probably the best of the trip.
Buying a gun from the pawn shop, 25 points
Shooting said gun, a point per round
Jocelyn, i’m going to shave your hairy ass legs one night while you are sleeping, this isn’t a threat but rather a warning.
shaving Jocelyns legs while he sleeps, 50 points
convincing Jocelyn he should shave his legs, also 50 points.
We should partake in a little more southern comfort this year and hit up those godawful biker bars, or maybe even the Greenville nightlife once during the trip.
Going to biker bar with the pabst logo painted on the side, 10 points for every hour you last.
Leaving the house to make a non-cycling or grocery related trip, 20 points?
touching a local’s moustache, 50 points
(though it will probably be the last points you accumulate…)
Would definetly be interested but I don’t think that i could keep up that 30kph especially for that long. Is there anyone going who doesn’t go that fast? I’m still a newer rider and not strong enough.
Sounds like a wicked trip!
The speed of ~30 kph is average for all the flats, but we spend a good amount of time going slower up the hills. So if your a solid climber and can draft comfortably in the pack you will be able to keep up.
Also there will by 7 weeks of training with the team before the trip. Lots of spinning and plyo to be done before we go. Plenty of time to make a decision.
sounds like a good plan.
I’m going to chip in on this one, I didn’t do it last year but I know anyone who is willing to attend spinning and train on their own to improve their fitness and form over the winter will 1) be fine at spring training and 2) be a better cyclist when they return from spring training.
No slacking off though, a week of biking is going to be hard for everyone so now is the time to start preparing.
Wow, Scott you put a lot of thought into this.
If you guys want to have a competition, I would recommend we do a caesars head TT at the end of the week, otherwise I would worry that people will burn themselves out too early.
Also
Making dinner for everyone = 250 points
urg… uphill TTs…
Hmm yea I like the sound of that TT. And I sure do love to cook!
yeah, TTs rock. Out of interest, just how long are these climbs?
yeah, i get that. but definitely I’m not training to ride to BC, so I might not be joining you on your quest for 1000 kms. Good luck tho. I’m sure you could do it.
While I find those super long rides fun once in a while I’m interested in the hill repeats in SC. Couple of reps of Sassafras, a few Caesars head etc. 80 km rides with 2000m of climbing. Hill bragging rights is whats up.
i think the key is just to say, fuck sleep, bring rollers to SC, and shootgun a beer every 10km. Not only would it be as wild as cancun, but slightly more dangerous.
Also, screw core or jogging, i can get 11 points in twenty minutes using said methodology.
Yea thats pretty reasonable. I guess it depends on one’s definition of fun; to me it is hours upon hours of gooch-numbing pain :).
I guess we’ll see how tough it is to crank out mileage given the topography. All I know is I plan on riding as much as humanly possible. That’s if I even go I guess…
Also, can beers be replaced by milkshakes?
You’re all about the gooch-numbing, eh phil? I’m gonna go ahead and say that some of the most fun I had on this trip was the day that I didn’t ride at all. I’m no expert on road bike training, but I was so much more fresh the day after my little rest day mid week, it let me really power through the last few days of the trip.
I’m just sayin’. Also, I think drew can back me up on this one, as he was with me the day we decided to go gun shopping.
Yea I have no doubt that taking a day off would freshen you up, but for me the goal is to absolutely kill myself for the week and then take the next week a bit easier. After a week of more relaxed training you tend to feel extremely fresh and much stronger than before. Then you can build on that through other cycles of medium, hard and easy weeks.
It really depends what system you’re trying to develop. I want to bike to BC next summer so all i need is that ability to ride at average speeds for long periods of time.
The key is to do 3 hours on the trainer (give or take 90km) the morning you leave mtl, then to core in the car and sleep 11 hours. Shotgun 3 beers upon arrival and you’re at 100 FREE points!
Scott: If I hear so much as a whisper of a swimming addition to the points system…
Consider yourself warned.
phil: i never said i didn’t believe in you, rather “while i don’t doubt that you’ll be able to do this, i just can’t imagine it’d be overly fun.”
I’m going to reiterate that, if we go to the same spot in south carolina, the terrain is difficult, being only rolling hills and after a winter on the trainer km’s don’t come the way they used to. I’ll go as far as saying km based goals for this trip are stupid when the level of difficulty of hills in the area is so great; Sassafras is the toughest hill i’ve rode, and it isn’t even close.
Also, in terms of 1000km, keep in mind you start the trip after spending 18 hours sitting in a car. Then ride 143km every day for 7 days and then spend another 18 uncomfortable hours sitting in a car.
