Spring Training 2011

ha i like the competitive spirit.
And drew i am somewhat insulted that you don’t believe in us. However, now you’ve given me some motivation to prove you wrong, and for that I thank you. 1000km it is!

John: Don’t bring that poseur OREC nonsense up in this respectable organization! Maybe you have a point on beers though, but 2 points is way too much. I’d say we can maybe do 0.5 points, 1 if it’s shot-gunned.

Steven: Even for a group like ours, there is a time and a place for hard intervals/sprints/etc. Big volume base camps are not it! The point system should reward epic mileage over sprints/agression/etc.

Ben: Above all else, the point system needs to reward consistency. It would be bad if someone could super-ultra-combo on one day, hit bronze, and then be too fucked for three days to do anything meaningful. Early season camps are for baking up the cake, and there’s no better way to do it then a ludicrous amount of steady riding.

Jocelyn: we’ll also be drug testing at this camp. So whatever you’ve been taking to put on 50lbs in one year better be out of your pee pee by Feb or you’re -500 to begin with.

For any KOM / Sprint points a rider with unshaved legs scores, every rider with shaved legs should lose 5 points out of shame.

I would like to add that for each climb of sasafrass mountain, you should get 10 points. If you climb it twice in a row, then 10 points for the first climb and 20 for the second. If you climb it three times in a row, then the third climb counts for triple, or 30 points. If sasafrass mountain is more than 50 km from wherever it is we end up staying, then all these points are doubled.

2 bonus points on each climb if at least one section of the road is completely covered in snow and/or ice, such that you cannot ride around it.

Also, I agree with jocelyn, since I will not be shaving my legs for this event.

I am going to ride 1000km at this training camp. There. I said it.

If anyone that wants to come has access to a vehicle, let me know!

If Scott is serious I will consider going.

Chillip, I will if he won’t.

Oh John how you tempt me.
I am now a tentative yes, barring lack of funds or unreal snow conditions in february.

more realistic goal of 750.
to scott, phil and john 1 mtl km =/= 1 sc km; while i don’t doubt that you’ll be able to do this, i just can’t imagine it’d be overly fun.

how many riding days will we have?

To Drew,

I think you mean != (<3)

This camp is Brandon’s baby so I (humbly) propose the following points system. The team could throw together some prizes for hitting your targets, top male, top female, etc.

1 km riding (any pace) = 1 point
Core workout (20 min minimum) = 4 points
20 min easy jog plus stretching = 4 points
Sleep = +1 per hour for every hour greater than 8 per night, -1 for every hour less than 7 per night.
Whining = -1 point plus 10 pushups
Lack of shaved legs = -10 points per day
1 beer (consumed) = +0.25 points

Palmarès (MEN):
Carbon Fiber: 1100 points
Platinum: 1000 points
Gold: 800 points
Silver: 600 points
bronze: 400 points

Palmarès (WOMEN):
Carbon Fiber: 935 points
Platinum: 850 points
Gold: 680 points
Silver: 510 points
bronze: 340 points

Okay Scott

What you are saying here is that 20 minutes easy jog and a little stetch-out will further your development as a cyclist and person as much as drinking 80 beers.

  1. Running and derivatives are an OREC violation

  2. I propose 2 points per beer MINIMUM

  3. Joe Friel argues repeatedly that a good night’s sleep is one of the most important AND most often overlooked aspects of effective training. 10 points per hour?

I also say there should be Bonus points for Pulling the group, most aggressive rider… Green jersey points… etc. I know it’s a Training camp and Its Not supposed to be hard… but…
