As some of you may have heard, I’ll be leading a ride on Tuesday mornings at the F1 track for advanced and strong intermediate riders.
Depending on the turnout, we’ll devide into multiple teams of 3-4 and ride around the track in an attempt to gain our team points (details to follow).
We’ll meet at the hairpin turn at 6:45 (don’t be late!), go over teams, and head out for one complete warm up lap of the track (at which time I’ll point out an intermediate sprint point). When we come around to the finish line we’ll begin. The hope is that we’ll start our 7 laps at 7:00, and end around 7:45 at which point we’ll ride back to school in time to get to 8:35 classes.
Points will be collected on two lap intervals, for 6 laps total:
1pt for the team that takes intermediate sprint
3pts for the team that takes the first sprint for the finish line
1pt again for the intermediate sprint point
5pts for the final sprint to the finish (after which the ride is neutralized untill everyone regroups before beginning again)
There’s only 30 points available in all, so hopefully it will be easy enough to keep track of them as we go. If enough people are signed up by Monday afternoon, I’ll post the teams the night before the ride.
Hopefully we’ll be fast and furious and all will have a good time!
If you’re going to come out tomorrow morning, try and sign up in the next few hours so I can get you on a team!
Looks like it’s going to be a great turn out so far! Again, anyone who wants to race this spring should give this ride a shot. It’s going to be a blast
From doing this a couple times last year I think you should have a small neutralized area, like from the finish to right before the small hill, only like 300 meters but enough to regain your breath and wait for those who got dropped. Keep in mind to win a sprint you’re going to have used your team and they’ll be 10-30 seconds back.
Yes, I think I mentioned that I’ll post the teams the night before
And with no neutralized section, teams might want to plan their tactics accordingly.
I’ve read about social psychology experiments like this. I think in the end we end up killing eachother because one social group will grow to hate and resent the other. We’ll also have to plan for that.
@Adam,
While this is true, the deep seeded resentment can be overcome when the teams must work together to achieve a common goal. I think we will be fine if after all of this we set up a duel with UdM.

I agree with Drew on this. Not only will the sprinter want to wait for his teammates, but the sprinter will need to take a break. This will make it turn into an TTT where only the first wheel counts.
This ride is going to be really important for riders like myself where I have the tendency to push way too hard and then explode becoming completely useless for 10 minutes. Learning about how hard we can push for attacks and intermediate sprints and still hang with the group for a strong finish is so vital.
I really am looking forward to this ride Dennis. Nice work.
It seems hard to imagine that this wouldn’t just explode without some form of regroup. The No. 3 (even No. 2?) lead out guy will get screwed. Even if we were as organized as HTC that guy would be like 500 meters back at the end of the sprint.
Points for intermediate sprints might also be a little ambitious. Sprints are all out 100% efforts and dudes start to fall apart pretty quick, even with recovery. Today at the track we did 4 (1 per lap) and I was cooked afterward.
In anycase, there’s no reason we can’t just try it and then adjust as needed. It sounds like the point is to have fun and encourage a bit of healthy competition.
